December is so often a month of “more”.
The activities and expectations of the year-end holidays can lead us to take on more than we can handle, spend more than we can afford, commit to things we don’t really want to do.
And the approach of a new year can add still more pressure — with the unspoken expectation that, come January 1, you’ll be ready to be the perfect you, living the perfect life you envision for yourself.
So as our theme this month, I’ve picked what I hope will be the perfect counterpoint to all that…
Simplicity.
We’ll each bring our own personal meanings to this topic. But there are certainly many different ways that simplifying can be a gift…
- Surrounding ourselves with less stuff, so we can better see and enjoy what we have.
- Filling our calendars and task lists with fewer things, so we can be more present for the things we do and the people we do them with.
- Un-complicating our expectations for ourselves and the way we operate, to help bring more ease into our lives
- Letting go of the illusion of control and embracing a simple, spiritual sense of surrender
- Being present in the moment, instead of living in the complications of the past or the imagined future
The essence of this theme, though, is really about recognizing what actually matters, and letting go of the many things that get in the way of that.
Simple! And that’s what we’ll be focusing on together this month. I hope you’ll join me.
